In my 15 years as an educator and coach, I have tried to impact the lives of every child I coach and teach. I have taught Spanish, ESOL, and Physical Education. I have also coached football, baseball, basketball, and track. I am currently the head football and baseball coach at Wamego High School, where I teach physical education. My wife and I live in Wamego with our two kids. We love to travel to other countries, which stemmed from our study abroad experiences at FHSU.
What do you now do for a living? How did you end up choosing this career path?
I teach physical education and am the current head football and baseball coach at Wamego High School. I always had a calling to coach and teach. During my childhood, sports were at the forefront of my life. I was fortunate to have great teachers and mentors who motivated me to be the best I could be.
Why did you choose to attend FHSU?
I was recruited to play football and baseball at Fort Hays State University. During my visit, I knew it was a place I would like to go to school and play sports. The people at FHSU were passionate about their school, and it was instantly somewhere I wanted to be.
What are your favorite memories from your time as a student?
The friendships I made while at FHSU were what I remember the most. My teachers and coaches are still in my life, which speaks volumes for the type of people they are. My teammates and classmates have been friends for life, and it’s one of the most enjoyable things to reminisce on the great memories we made while at school at FHSU.
What advice do you have for current or prospective FHSU students?
Experience as much as you can while at FHSU. Get to know as many people as possible and live in the moment. The years will go fast, so make memories!
Tell us about someone at FHSU who has left a lasting impression:
I met my wife, Kiley, at FHSU as an incoming freshman. We really connected, and I instantly fell in love with her. We have been married for 15 years and have two children, Amaia, 10, and Grayson, 9.
Doctor Evelyn Toft was one of my favorite professors. She inspired me to travel the world and made me love the Spanish language. She cared for me as a person, and we spoke even after my years at FHSU.
In what ways are you proud to be a Tiger?
I am proud to be an alum because of what it means to go to FHSU. There are so many fantastic alums that I have connected with over the years, and there is no doubt that FHSU molds young people into successful people. I have an enormous amount of pride to tell people I graduated with a Bachelor’s and Masters from FHSU.
