Trey Teeter ’20

I graduated from Holcomb High School in 2016 and then received a football and track and field scholarship to attend Hutchinson Community College. Following my time at HCC, I transferred to Fort Hays State University, where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Performance with a focus on teaching and coaching.

What do you now do for a living? How did you end up choosing this career path?

I am an educator for Holcomb High School and recently accepted the position as the head football coach. I teach various courses in the physical education department and am also an instructor in the driver’s ed program. Not only do I coach football, but am an assistant for the basketball and track and field programs as well. This has been my chosen career path for as long as I can remember. I was very fortunate to have been inspired by several teachers and coaches during my time in school, and I want to give back and make a difference in others’ lives in a similar way.

Why did you choose to attend FHSU?

Fort Hays State University was such a good fit for me. FHSU has one of the best teaching programs in the country, and it provided me with an opportunity to continue my desire to participate as a track and field athlete. After my first visit to campus, I knew it was a place I could call home. FHSU was affordable, offered a quality education, and provided me with a great experience in many areas.

What are your favorite memories from your time as a student?

Looking back on my time as a student, some of my favorite memories were attending the different Fort Hays State University games and participating in track. Another highlight of my time at FHSU was meeting others in my career path. Whether it was through networking events, workshops, or group projects, I appreciated the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who shared my passion for education and coaching. These experiences helped to shape me both personally and professionally, and I will always treasure the memories I made at FHSU.

What advice do you have for current or prospective FHSU students?

Choose a college that has professors that will get to know you personally. College is a great time to build your professional network. Attend networking events, join professional organizations, and connect with professors and alumni to help you build relationships and find opportunities. The college years go by so quick so enjoy every minute.

Tell us about someone at FHSU who has left a lasting impression:

Several of the professors at Fort Hays State University left a lasting impression on me. Dr. Sedbrook, Dr. Ellis and Mr. Ney to name just a few were not only knowledgeable and passionate about this field, but were also incredibly supportive. They each took time to get to know me individually and really cared about my future.

In what ways are you proud to be a Tiger?

Fort Hays State University is dedicated to providing a quality education that prepares students for success in their chosen careers. With a wide range of academic programs and support services, FHSU helps students achieve their goals and reach their full potential. FHSU has molded me into the educator I am today and I will forever be grateful for my time there. Go Tigers!
