I am a mother to 5 young children, who appreciates art, agriculture and the great outdoors. This teacher is a proponent of outdoor and project-based learning!
What do you now do for a living? How did you end up choosing this career path?
This year, I was hired to teach at Marysville Elementary School, where I work with Kindergarten and 1st grade students who need special services. Prior to earning my degree and license, my time was spent at home operating a licensed daycare. Problem-solving issues and providing support to families was such a joy and I began dreaming of a career in teaching. During my time student-teaching, I realized that providing specialized support to students was some of the most fulfilling work I did. This led me to pursue a special education position.
Why did you choose to attend FHSU?
I chose FHSU because I was working from home and raising babies. The university was well-known for their affordable and award-winning online programs.
What are your favorite memories from your time as a student?
My fondest memories are from my internship experience in preschool. I’m sure that all early childhood educators are gifted with great laughs at the musings of their little people. I was blessed to work with some amazing teachers and friends as I learned what it takes to be great!
What advice do you have for current or prospective FHSU students?
Manage your time well, be open-minded and seek advice from experienced people.
Tell us about someone at FHSU who has left a lasting impression:
Dr. Beth Walizer has inspired many teachers over the years and I am no exception. She taught me the importance of creating lessons that are structured and engaging!
