FHSU Class of 2021. I am a second-generation Mexican American and a first-generation college graduate. I majored in criminal justice and have a strong interest in the legal system which is why I am a current law student. My research experience with the Center for Empowering Victims of Gender-Based Violence at FHSU was an amazing experience that helped me develop the skills I now use in law school.

What do you now do for a living? How did you end up choosing this career path?

Currently a 2L student at UMKC School of Law. Expectant graduate of the Class of 2025. I aspire to become a family law attorney and continue my work in gender-based violence research.
I am also a Community Advisory Board Member for FHSU’s Center for Empowering Victims of Gender-Based Violence.

Why did you choose to attend FHSU?

I loved how the environment felt close-knit and how supportive the faculty were.

What are your favorite memories from your time as a student?

My favorite memories involve my time as a member of the criminal justice club. I met amazing people.

What advice do you have for current or prospective FHSU students?

Become involved. Think about your interests and how you can develop your knowledge of them.

Tell us about someone at FHSU who has left a lasting impression:

Dr. Ziwei Qi. I mentor in every sense of the word. I would not be where I am without her support and encouragement.

In what ways are you proud to be a Tiger?

As a 2nd generation Mexican American and a first-generation college graduate FHSU was everything I needed to feel supported and encouraged to push myself to heights I had never dreamed of. I am proud to be an alumna of a school that provides that for others like me.
