Tell us about yourself:
I am a Fort Hays State Alum. I completed my undergraduate and masters degree from 2004-2010. I ran cross country and track for the tigers during that time. I am currently the Head Cross Country and Head Track and Field Coach at Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS. I also instruct in the Exercise Science Department. I am also a Hillsboro High School graduate.

What do you now do for a living? How did you end up choosing this career path?
I am Head Coach for two teams at Bethany College (cross country and track and field) and I instruct two courses in the Exercise Science department. I chose coaching and teaching because I am deeply passionate about mentoring and guiding young adults into their vocation.

Why did you choose to attend FHSU?
I chose Fort Hays State because my older brother was attending the school (on the track team) and I loved the campus and coaches at Fort Hays. In particular I came to Fort Hays because of Denis Weber and Jim Krob.

What are your favorite memories from your time as a student? My favorite memories were competing for the Tigers in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Coach McCollough was my coach and took us all around the Midwest to compete and we had a great teams and experiences as student athletes. Also my other memorable experience was instructing for Duane Shepard in Country Western Dance Class while I was in Graduate school. By having this experience it motivated me to get into teaching.

What advice do you have for current or prospective FHSU students?
Enjoy this time that you have and take care of responsibilities because the Fairy tale ends and then the big responsibilities begin. Fort Hays State is the best school in America so take pride in being a Tiger.

Tell us about someone at FHSU who has left a lasting impression: Someone that made a huge impression of Dr. Jeff Burnett. He was a professor I had in my undergraduate and graduate studies and also a mentor. He was the supervisor of FCA as well. He really helped to guide my faith and always encouraged me if I was going to tough times and also celebrated my victories. I really admire and respect how he taught me about living out my Love of God and others.

In what ways are you proud to be a Tiger? I am proud to represent the Tigers as professional coach and teacher knowing that I went into the profession because of the teachers and coaches I had a Fort Hays State University. It is also really cool to hear from the Tigers when I have success as an athlete, coach or teacher.

Additional comments: I am currently the Guinness World Record Holder in the backwards Mile and 1,000m. I am also a 7-time World Champion in Retro Running. I recently competed in the New Balance 5th Avenue Virtual Mile where I broke my world record by 24 seconds. I am proud to represent the Tigers in success as I know it wouldn't have been possible without the valuable lessons and support I have received from Fort Hays State University. Read more about his endeavours here.
