Two new members join FHSU Alumni Association Board of Directors

The Fort Hays State University Alumni Association Board of Directors recently announced the addition of two new board members, Dr. Roger Schieferecke, Hays, and Sarah (Piper) Waller, Garden City, at its summer meeting in Hays.

Schieferecke is the director of the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science. He received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication from FHSU in 1995 and 1998, respectively. He will serve a three-year board faculty term and hold a position on the Membership and Marketing Committee.

Waller is the marketing director of Clarion Inn & Conference Center in Garden City. She received a bachelor’s degree in communication with a public relations emphasis in 2007 from FHSU. She was appointed to a four-year term and will also serve on the Membership and Marketing Committee.

Two additional board members are serving a second four-year term: Denise (Stegman) Riedel, 1986 graduate, Overland Park, and Dave Voss, 1980 and 1982 graduate, Colby. Riedel will serve on the Chapter Development Committee and Voss will continue as chair of the Awards and Recognition Committee.

“We are fortunate to have a 24-member board of highly talented and dedicated graduates assisting us in furthering the overall success of the association,” said DeBra Prideaux, 1986 and 1992 graduate and FHSU executive director of alumni and governmental relations.

The board sets the policy and direction of the association in developing life-long relationships between the university and alumni.

The 2015-16 Executive Council is composed of Dr. Eric Grospitch, Overland Park; Mitchell Hall, Anthony; Dr. Diane (Pfeifer) Scott, Broomfield, Colo.; Dave Voss, Colby; Rich Dreiling, Wichita; Monte Broeckelman, Beloit; Mike Koerner, Hays; Lea Ann (Scott) Curtis, Topeka; and Chad Fowler, Andale.

Grospitch will serve as president of the board. He graduated from FHSU in 1993 with a bachelor of business administration in marketing and in 1997 with a master of science in counseling and guidance. He is the dean of students at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Hall will serve as vice president and is a member of the Finance and Operations Committee. He received a bachelor’s degree in political science from FHSU in 2005 and is the owner of H2O Drilling LLC and Hall Family Land & Cattle LLC.

Scott is the past president of the board and a member of the Chapter Development Committee. She received a Bachelor of Arts in sociology in 1988 and a Master of Science in counseling and guidance in 1990 from FHSU. Scott is a self-employed consultant and life coach.

Voss serves as chair of the Awards and Recognition committee. He received a bachelor’s degree in communication from FHSU in 1992 and works as a network development manager with Centene Corp. Sunflower State Health Plan.

Dreiling serves as chair of the Chapter Development Committee. He graduated from FHSU in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and is an account sales manager with CD Custom Enterprises LLC in Newton.

Broeckelman serves as the chair of the Finance and Operations Committee. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from FHSU in 1992 and is the CFO of Farmway Coop Inc.

Koerner serves as chair of the Membership and Marketing Committee. He graduated from FHSU in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in information networking and telecommunications in media studies and in 2005 with a master’s degree in INT. Koerner is the operations and systems manager of Eagle Communications in Hays.

Curtis will serve in an at-large position and is a member of the Membership and Marketing Committee. She graduated from FHSU in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education and in 1982 with a Master of Science in education administration. She is the director of the Advantage Center at the Washburn Institute of Technology.

Fowler will serve in an at-large position and is a member of the Finance and Operations Committee. He graduated from FHSU in 1999 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance and is a compliance manager and vice president with Wells Fargo.

Ethan Harder, 2005 graduate, Elkhart, field technician/safety coordinator, Harder & Associates, LLC;

Leo Lake, 1957 and 1961 graduate, Salina, retired;

Dr. Kenneth Ruder, 1962 graduate, Petersburg, Ky., professor emeritus, Southern Illinois University;

Charles “Chuck” Sexson, 1972 graduate, Topeka, director, Concealed Carry Licensing Unit, Office of the Attorney General;

Richard “Rich” Sieker, 1977 and 1981 graduate, Hays, sales representative, Eagle Communications.

Retiring board members Jon Armstrong, 1996 and 2008 graduate, Hays, and Josh Biera, 1992 graduate, Garden City, were recognized for their combined 11 years of service.
