I’m originally from Campbell, NE, and reside in Beloit, KS. I was a transfer student while attending FHSU. I got interested in welding in an agricultural class in high school (Blue Hill Community School). At first, I was terrified of striking my first arc, but I have been hooked ever since. I’m now a welding instructor for Cloud County Community College, a new program starting at the Concordia, KS, campus. In my free time, I’m an avid motorsports fan, from circle track to drag racing you’ll catch me at one of those! I’m currently building what hopes to be a 9-second car in my 1982 El Camino. When I’m not doing something car-related, I create and edit content for EDGE Welding Supply. I also serve as the ambassador committee co-chair for Crew Collaborative, a nonprofit that advocates for the trades through several different programs, one being classroom talks. I am also an American Welding Society Arc Star that promotes membership and the benefits of joining. Also, I am a part of Girl Gang Garage, an all-female shop based out of Phoenix, AZ that has a build going to SEMA.
What do you now do for a living? How did you end up choosing this career path?
I’m a post-secondary welding educator. Welding has been my career path since I was a senior in high school. However, teaching hasn’t been, and honestly, I never thought I’d be one.
Why did you choose to attend FHSU?
I chose FHSU because they had an articulation agreement with NCK Tech, where I attended my first year of college, transferred to complete my Welding Engineering Associate’s Degree, and finished my Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Technology.
What are your favorite memories from your time as a student?
Getting involved with several different organizations on campus!
What advice do you have for current or prospective FHSU students?
Try something new and get out there! I highly recommend joining a club, sorority/fraternity, or organization at FHSU. Go to the picnic at the beginning of the year and find the right one for you!
Tell us about someone at FHSU who has left a lasting impression:
All my instructors in the Applied Technology program. Especially Eric Deneault and Randy Jordan!
In what ways are you proud to be a Tiger?
I got an amazing education for a great price from incredible instructors that are now my mentors.
