Linda Ganstrom ’80, ’86, ’90

I am a professor in the Department of Art and Design.

What do you now do for a living? How did you end up choosing this career path? I followed my passion for art, ceramics and teaching.

Why did you choose to attend FHSU? The faculty, students and facility were a good fit with my goals and personality. It was relatively close to my family and offered a creative place to grow as an artist and teacher.

What are your favorite memories from your time as a student? Working in the studio late into the evenings and sharing conversations and stories with the other students. Listening to the advice of my professors, Darrell McGinnis, Dale Ficken, Mick Jilg and Kathleen Kuchar.

What advice do you have for current or prospective FHSU students? Follow your bliss. If you have the passion or fire it will drive you to commit and spend. The time to excel. Once equipped with knowledge and skills, doors seem to open up with opportunity. Say yes and follow your heart.

Tell us about someone at FHSU who has left a lasting impression: My major professor Darrell McGinnis installed in me a love for the material of ceramics and its incredible potential to take and make an impression. I loved his textures and sense of scale. He always challenged me to “Surprise Me!”

In what ways are you proud to be a Tiger? I am proud that FHSU continues to offer high quality education at an affordable price making education and opportunity available to students. The Department of Art and Design has a long tradition of fostering excellence in the arts and education. I am so glad to be a part of that family.
